Mode of Action
Anthraquinone glycosides reduce inflammation and salicylic acid is an analgesic. Given together, they are used for pain relief associated with recurrent mouth ulcers and denture irritation.
Precaution
Each bottle of oral solution should be used by only one person.
Indications
This oral solution is used to treat acute and chronic mouth, gum, and throat inflammations (Aphthous Ulcer, Cold Sore, Gingivitis, Periodontitis, Dental Hypersensitivity, Dental Plaque, Denture Irritation).
Pharmacology
Salicylic acid works by inhibiting the action of cyclo-oxygenase, a protein found in the body. This extract includes anti-inflammatory anthraquinone glycosides. This absorbs quickly into the oral mucosa.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: To be applied to the inflamed oral mucosa (after removing any dentures) 3 to 4 times daily using the brush provided. Avoid rinsing the mouth or eating for 15 minutes after application. Always keep the cap closed immediately after every use.
Children: As per consultation with a registered physician, it is recommended below the age of 12 years.
Interactions
There are no recognized interactions with the preparation.
Contraindications
Any of the ingredients can cause hypersensitivity.
Side-Effects
It is fairly typical to experience a brief local burning sensation at the application site. Following administration of the oral solution, temporary yellowing of teeth or oral mucosa has been reported frequently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Animal research on the effects on pregnancy and/or embryonal/foetal development are lacking. Humans may be at risk, but this is unknown. Prescriptions for pregnant women should be handled with caution.
Lactation: Rhubarb-derived anthraquinone glycosides may be secreted in breast milk. However, it is unknown whether these or salicylic acid are excreted in breast milk at therapeutic levels of oral solution. The benefits of breast-feeding for the infant and the benefits of oral solution therapy for the mom should be considered when deciding whether to continue breast-feeding or continue therapy with an oral solution.
Precautions & Warnings
Only one individual should use each bottle of the oral solution.
Storage Conditions
Store in a cold, dry, and light-protected location.
Side Effect
A transient local burning sensation at the site of application occurs very commonly. Temporary discoloration of teeth or oral mucosa has been described commonly following administration of oral solution.
